Time is what we want the most but use the worst. We live in a day and age where technology is everything. Although it can be helpful, it consumes our lives-whether it be a video game, a Snapchat, or a Netflix movie. I cannot count the many hours I have wasted staring at a pixelated screen when I could be far more productive. How, you may ask, do I plan on eliminating this problem? The answer to perfecting my personal  time management is obvious: cut off all distractions. First, I must leave my phone in my locker at school, so that I will be able to focus on the lesson without having the constant nag in my mind to pull it out of my backpack. Additionally, I must install an App on my phone that allows me to have limited time on Social Media per day- that way I will use that time on Social Media wisely. Finally, rather than watch TV, I will simply find better things to do- whether it be going on a walk, doing homework or hanging out with friends.

Before anything else, I must stop taking my electronic device to my classes. I have tried putting it in my backpack but that has proven to have no impact. If I am aware that my phone is right next to me I will take it out and use it. Therefore, I plan to leave my phone in my locker so that it is far away from me. If it is out of site, it will be out of mind. With this distraction out of the way, I will finally be able to give my attention to my teacher and the lesson.

Once I have conquered the act of not bringing my phone to class, I will focus on limiting my Social media time. Recently I discovered an app by the name of ‘Offtime’. The app allows users to set hourly and daily limits. Additionally, it lets users block calls, texts, and notifications. If I install this app , my social media usage will be restricted.  As a result, I  will not  be spending every second of my free time scrolling through Instagram.  I will begin  ‘saving’ my social media time for night, after I have completed my daily tasks.

Last, but not least, I will refrain from watching movies after school and on weekends. I rarely have time that can be used for my own enjoyment. Why then, do I continue to  misuse it by staring at a large screen? I must search for more useful and active forms of entertainment. As much as I love nature, I rarely go for walks or hikes anymore. Above that, I have multiple projects and assignments that I need to begin; and with my busy schedule, I have not been able to do anything with my friends lately, which is quite  important to me. Finding ways to avoid TV is simple.

There is so much to do, and so little time to do it. I need to be successful with my time and engage in activities that have a purpose. However, I cannot be successful with my time if technology continues to interfere. Time seems to fly while I am using an electronic device, and that is something I must put an end to. No longer will I  bring my phone to my lessons, waste time on Social Media, or give in to the temptation of watching a television show. Once I am able to defeat my distractions, I will be a far  more productive and happier person. Afterall, work is hard, distractions are plentiful, and time is short.
